Packaging Requirements
Lithium batteries must be packaged in strong, sturdy packaging that can undergo a 1.2-meter drop test performed in any orientation. To pass this drop test, the contents must not shift. The purpose of the test confirms that no battery-to-battery contact is made, as it could cause a short circuit. The test also confirms that the batteries do not escape their packaging. The drop test is not required for lithium batteries that are contained in equipment. Packages that meet this exception do not need to meet the UN performance oriented packaging requirements.
