Cargo Acceptance - Air Waybill

The Air Waybill, also referred to as an Air Consignment Note, is completed for the air transport of all goods. This form functions as a contract between the shipper and operator for the carriage of goods. In addition, it provides evidence of receipt of goods.

Air Waybills that accompany a dangerous goods consignment for which a dangerous goods declaration is required must include the following statements in the Handling Information box:

• "Dangerous goods as per attached Shipper's Declaration" or "Dangerous Goods as per attached DGD"
• "Cargo Aircraft Only" or "CAO

If an Air Waybill contains both dangerous and non-dangerous goods, the Handling Information box must indicate the number of pieces of dangerous goods and must be shown either before or after the Dangerous goods as per attached Shipper's Declaration.

The Nature and Quantity of Goods box serves as a general description for rating or custom requirements and does not need the proper shipping name.

If a Shipper's Declaration is not required, the Nature and Quantity of Goods box must show the following information:

• UN or ID number
• Proper shipping name
• Number of packages (unless these are the only packages within the consignment)
• Net quantity per package (only required for UN 1845)

The statement "Dangerous Goods in Excepted Quantities" must be added to the Nature and Quantity of Goods box as well as the number of packages, if the consignment is being shipped under the Excepted Quantity provision.

If an article or substance could be suspected of being a dangerous good but does not meet the criteria for any hazard classes or divisions, it may be offered for transport as not restricted if the words "Not Restricted" are included in the description. If the dangerous good is accepted for transport under a special provision, the statement "Not restricted, as per Special Provision" must be included.
