Cargo Acceptance - Class 7

Class 7 - Radioactive Material is for material that spontaneously and continually emit certain types of radiation that can be harmful to your health. Common examples include x-ray machines or isotopes used for medical or industrial purposes, such as Cobalt 60 and Iodine 132. The transport index is sometimes placed on radioactive material packages to designate the degree of control needed to be exercised during transportation.

Radioactive material is divided into the following categories:

Category I - White includes radioactive materials with low radiation levels on the package surface. No transport index is required.

Category II - Yellow includes radioactive materials with radiation levels that are higher than Category I and have a transport index that does not exceed 1.

Category III - Yellow includes radioactive materials with radiation levels that are higher than Category II or have a transport index that exceeds 1 but does not exceed 10.

Fissile materials include Uranium 233 and 235 and Plutonium 239 and 241. Fissile material also requires Criticality Safety Index labels in addition to the appropriate radioactive labels.
