Cargo Acceptance - Identification

All dangerous goods are identified by their proper shipping name and an assigned UN number or identification number. This information is used to identify dangerous goods listed on packages and shipping documents. General cargo acceptance personnel must be able to use the List of Dangerous Goods to properly identify dangerous goods.

DGR 4.2 List of Dangerous Goods provides approximately 3,000 different articles and substances that are most commonly shipped by air. Although extensive, this list is not all-inclusive.

In addition to providing the proper shipping name, the List of Dangerous Goods provides the UN number, class, and division, if applicable, along with other provisions such as packing instructions, labels, excepted and limited quantities, packing instructions, and any special provisions. The list also indicates whether an article or substance is forbidden for air transport.
