Cargo Acceptance - Key Terms

Before we begin, it may be helpful to review some key terms and concepts related to the DGR.

Dangerous Goods are articles or substances that are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property, or the environment and that are shown in or are classified according to the list of dangerous goods in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR)

In the United States, the term hazardous materials, or HAZMAT, is often used in place of dangerous goods.

Shipper refers to a person, organization, or enterprise that performs or is responsible for performing any pre-transportation functions.

Operator refers to a person, organization, or enterprise engaged in or offering to engage in aircraft operation.
