Cargo Acceptance - Labels
There are two types of labels:
- Hazard labels - required for most dangerous goods in all classes
- Handling labels - required, either alone or in addition to hazard labels, for some dangerous goods
For each package and overpack requiring labels, the shipper is responsible for the following:
- Remove or obliterate any irrelevant labeling already on the package or overpack.
- Use only labels of durable quality and of the correct specification.
- Inscribe any required additional information on each label in a durable manner.
- Affix appropriate labels in the correct locations and in a secure manner.
- Ensure that the labeling responsibilities are completely fulfilled when the package or overpack is presented to the operator.
The operator is responsible for replacing labels that become detached or unidentifiable during transport.
