Cargo Acceptance - Unit Load Devices

A unit load device (ULD) is any type of freight container, aircraft container, aircraft pallet with a net, or aircraft pallet with a net over an igloo. Overpacks and freight containers for radioactive material are not included in the definition of a unit load device.

Each ULD containing dangerous goods that require hazard labels must clearly display an indication that dangerous goods are contained. A ULD identification tag has prominent red hatchings on both sides and must have minimum dimensions of 148 x 210 mm (5¾ x 8¼ in). The primary and subsidiary hazard class and division must be marked on the tag. If the ULD contains a CAO label, that information must be included on the tag. The tag must be removed from the ULD when the dangerous goods are removed.
