IATA Cabin Crew & Passenger Security - Dangerous Goods in Operator's Property

There are exceptions made for some dangerous goods that are considered operator's property. These goods are required or permitted to be onboard to meet operating regulations and air worthiness. This includes aircraft equipment and spares, life rafts, life jackets, and emergency escape slides. Many of these items contain cylinders of compressed gas, which are considered dangerous goods.

Certain consumer goods are permitted onboard aircrafts for use or for sale during the flight. These items may include aerosols, alcoholic beverages, perfumes and colognes, gas lighters, solid carbon dioxide (dry ice), and portable electronic devices containing lithium ion or lithium metal cells or batteries. Electronic devices that contain lithium ion or lithium metal cells or batteries are permitted provided they meet all the provisions for lithium batteries for portable electronic devices, which are provided in DGR 2.3.5.9.1. The operator must include the conditions for transporting portable electronic devices in his or her operations manual to inform the flight crew, cabin crew, and other employees of their responsibilities.
