Flight Crew & Load Planner - Battery-powered Wheelchairs and Mobility Aids - Non-spillable Batteries

Non-spillable batteries are designed and constructed to prevent the leakage of electrolytes, regardless of the position of the battery, through use of a jellylike electrolyte or porous absorbent separators.

Wheelchairs and other battery operated mobility devices with non-spillable batteries are permitted for air transport with operator approval. They must be loaded with the battery terminal insulated to prevent accidental short circuits. This may be accomplished by enclosing the battery in a battery container.

The operator must ensure that the device is transported in such a manner to prevent unintentional operation and to protect the device from being damaged by the movement of baggage, mail, or cargo.
