Flight Crew & Load Planner - Transported by Post
Most dangerous goods are forbidden to be transported by air mail by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Convention. However, the following items may be accepted by mail provided they meet the provisions of the appropriate national authorities concerned and comply with the requirements of the DGR:
- Infectious substances (Category B)
- Patient specimens
- Radioactive material that is less than one tenth of the excepted package limits
- Lithium ion batteries contained in equipment
- Lithium metal batteries contained in equipment
The allowance of radioactive material in the post has been revised to limit the excepted packages to UN 2910 and UN 2911 only. The radioactive material must not have a subsidiary risk and the packages must be marked and labeled with the following:
- The name and address of the shipper and the consignee
- This message: "radioactive material-quantities permitted for movement by post"
- The Radioactive Material, Excepted Package label
