Flight Crew & Load Planner - Flight Crew Emergency Procedures
Based on the ICAO Emergency Response Guide, the emergency checklist for flight crews should contain the following:
- Follow aircraft emergency procedures for fire or smoke removal.
- Ensure the "No Smoking" sign is on.
- Consider landing as soon as possible.
- Consider turning off non-essential electrical power.
- Determine the source of smoke, fumes, or fire.
- If a dangerous goods incident occurs in the passenger cabin, consult the cabin crew checklist and coordinate cockpit and cabin crew actions.
- Determine the emergency response drill code.
- Use guidance from the aircraft emergency response drills.
- If the situation permits, notify air traffic control of the dangerous goods being carried.
After the plane has landed, the flight crew should disembark passengers and crew before opening any cargo compartment doors. Then, inform ground personnel and emergency services of the nature and location of the dangerous goods. Finally, it is important to enter the incident in the maintenance log.
