Dangerous Goods Security

Security measures must be in place to minimize the potential for theft or misuse of dangerous goods that could endanger people or property. All persons involved in the air transport of dangerous goods should be aware of the security requirements equal to their job responsibilities. Security awareness should be included as part of employee training, covering topics such as:

• Nature of security risks
• Recognition of security risks
• Methods for addressing and reducing such risks
• Actions to be taken and individual responsibilities in the event of a security breach

Operators and shippers of high consequence dangerous goods should adopt and implement a security plan. High consequence dangerous goods are those that have the potential for misuse in a terrorist incident and that could produce serious consequences, such as mass destruction. Employees should be made aware of the security plans in effect and their individual responsibilities with regard to those plans.
