Emergency Procedures

Shippers, packers, and dangerous goods acceptance staff must follow these general emergency procedures in the event of a spill or leakage involving dangerous goods:

• Notify your immediate supervisor, and request professional assistance.
• Identify the substances involved by referring to the accompanying documentation, such as the Shipper's Declaration, or package markings.
• If possible, isolate the package by removing other uncontaminated packages or property.
• Avoid contact with the contents of the package.
• If contents come in contact with your body or clothing, thoroughly wash with plenty of water, remove contaminated clothing, keep your hands away from your eyes, mouth, and nose, do not eat or smoke, and seek medical assistance.
• All staff involved in a dangerous goods incident should stay on site until their names have been noted.
• Follow all local emergency response procedures.
