Packing Requirements
DGR Section 5 - Packing describes the shipper's responsibilities in regard to packing, as well as general and specific packing instructions for the nine classes of dangerous goods. Before we discuss shipper's packing requirements, let us review some key terminology related to packing.
Packing is the operation by which articles and substances are enveloped in wrappings or enclosed in packaging or otherwise secured.
A package is the complete product of the packing operation, consisting of the packaging and contents prepared for transport.
Packaging refers to one or more receptacles and any other components or materials necessary for the receptacles to perform their containment and other safety functions and to ensure compliance with the minimum packing requirements of the DGR.
