Storage & Loading
Properly packing dangerous goods is a vital element in preventing the release of its contents. However, if dangerous goods are handled improperly, even secure packagings containing the dangerous goods may fail. To ensure the proper storage and handling of dangerous goods, they must be protected from damage, inspected, and loaded with care.
When storing dangerous goods in a warehouse, or loading or unloading them from an aircraft, the following conditions must be considered:
- Segregation
- Restraint
- Shoring requirements
- Commodity-specific requirements
The same rules of load distribution and restraint that apply to general cargo apply to dangerous goods; however, improper load distribution or restraint may cause more severe consequences when dangerous goods are involved.
