UN Specification Packaging

UN specification packaging includes types of packaging, such as boxes, drums, receptacles, and jerricans, that meet UN prescribed construction criteria and are subject to a drop test, stacking test, and other specific design or performance requirements.

Package testing is conducted by a government authorized testing agency. The required tests vary for each packing group, and the most stringent tests are used for Packing Group I. The authorized testing agency must issue a test report, which includes general testing facility information, description of the packaging, maximum capacity of the package, and description and results of the test.

UN specification packagings are indicated with the UN symbol and the complete UN specification marking, which will be discussed in more detail later in the course.
