NOTOC

The NOTOC must include the following information:

  • The Air Waybill number (when issued)
  • The proper shipping name and UN or ID number
  • The class or division and any subsidiary hazard(s)
  • The packing group, when applicable
  • For non-radioactive packages, the number of packages, the net quantity or gross weight (including the units of measurement), if required on the Shipper's Declaration, and the exact loading location
  • For radioactive material: the number of packages, their category, their transport index, if applicable, and their exact loading location
  • Whether the package is restricted to cargo aircraft only
  • The airport at which the package is to be unloaded
  • An indication that the dangerous goods are being carried under a State exemption, if applicable

DGR Table 9.5.A lists dangerous goods that are not required to appear on the information provided to the pilot-in-command. Dangerous goods in excepted quantities and Category B biological substances are two examples of types of dangerous goods not required to be on a NOTOC.

The information provided to the pilot-in-command must have a signed confirmation from the personnel responsible for loading the dangerous goods stating that there was no evidence of damage or leakage.

The pilot-in-command must provide indication that he or she has received this information, and the NOTOC must be readily available during the flight. In addition to the pilot-in-command's copy, another copy of the form must be retained on the ground. This copy must be readily accessible to the flight operations crew.

If the pilot-in-command takes over a transit aircraft, the notification of all dangerous goods that remain onboard must be provided and readily available.

For helicopter operators only: if it is not practical to produce written or printed information, the information may be communicated to the pilot-in-command by other means, such as radio communication or on the operational flight plan.
