Radioactive Material - Industrial Packages

Industrial packaging may be used for LSA material and SCOs. Industrial packages are divided into three types: IP-1, IP-2, and IP-3.

Type IP-1 packages must meet the general package requirements for radioactive material, and the smallest overall dimension must not be less than 10 cm. Type IP-2 must meet the criteria for Type IP-1 packages, and it is subject to drop and stacking tests. Type IP-3 packages must meet the criteria for Type IP-1 packages, and they must be tested as Type A packages containing solid materials.

Industrial Package Types IP-1, IP-2, and IP-3 must be marked with the words "TYPE IP-1," "TYPE IP-2," or "TYPE IP-3," as appropriate. In addition, Type IP-2 and Type IP-3 packages must have the VRI code of the country of origin and design and the name of the manufacturer or other packaging identification specified by the competent authority marked on the package.
