Radioactive Material - Marking & Labeling
The following markings are required for all Industrial Package Types IP-1, IP-2, and IP-3, Type A, Type B(U), Type B(M), and Type C packages containing radioactive material:
- Proper shipping name
- UN number
- Full name and address of the shipper and consignee
- Permissible gross weight of the package if it exceeds 50 kg
- Additional required markings, such as when dry ice is used as a refrigerant
If an overpack is used and not all of the required markings are visible, the overpack must be marked with the following:
- The word "OVERPACK"
- The UN number, proper shipping name, and full name and address of the shipper and consignee
- Any special handling instructions
All packages and overpacks containing radioactive material must have a hazard label as specified in Subsection 4.2 List of Dangerous Goods, along with any hazard labels for subsidiary hazards. Fissile material must also have a Criticality Safety Index label.
