Section 1 - Applicability
Section 1 - Applicability covers the scope, background, application, responsibilities, training requirements, and security requirements related to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. This section applies to all classes of dangerous goods.
Subsection 1.0 provides a definition of dangerous goods: "Dangerous goods are articles or substances which are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment and which are shown in the list of dangerous goods in these Regulations or which are classified according to these Regulations."
In the United States, the term hazardous materials, or HAZMAT, is often used in place of dangerous goods. For the purpose of this course, and throughout the DGR, the term dangerous goods will be used.
