Subsection 1.1 - Organizations & Administrations Overview

Subsection 1.1 describes the basis for the IATA DGR. The following organizations provide the foundation for these Regulations or help enforce them.

SCoETDG

The United Nations (UN) Subcommittee of Experts on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (SCoETDG) develops recommendations for the transport of all types of dangerous goods except for radioactive materials.

ICAO

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a specialized agency of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with more than 180 member nations. The ICAO creates and enforces international law for civil air transportation.

IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is an international trade organization that represents approximately 230 airlines from 126 countries. It has developed commercial standards to help build the airline industry into a global one.

DOT

In the United States, the Department of Transportation (DOT) enforces ICAO standards and regulations through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
