Subsection 2.6-2.7 - Excepted & Limited Quantities
Excepted Quantities
Some types of dangerous goods may be transported in very small quantities as cargo only. Excepted quantities of dangerous goods are not permitted in or as checked or carry-on baggage, or in the mail. Paragraph 2.6.2.2 lists the classes and divisions of dangerous goods substances that may be carried under the provisions for excepted quantities. The excepted quantity weights and volumes are identified in Table 2.6.A. If multiple excepted-quantity dangerous goods are packaged together, the total quantity per outer package must be limited to the most restrictive code.
Limited Quantities
Some items of dangerous goods may be transported in very small quantities in passenger and cargo aircraft, if they meet the requirements of Subsection 2.7. Limited-quantity dangerous goods must be included in the dangerous goods permitted on passenger aircraft and must meet the criteria of the classes, divisions, and packing groups listed in Paragraph 2.7.2.1. A Shipper's Declaration of Dangerous Goods is required, and the package must be marked with the diamond-shaped Limited Quantity "Y" label, which indicates compliance with these regulations.
