Subsection 2.8 - Variations
States and operators may submit variations to these regulations. These variations are listed in the relevant subsection or in the packing instructions. State variations are listed in Subsection 2.8.2, and operator variations are listed in Subsection 2.8.4.
State Variations
When State variations are more restrictive than the DGR, they apply to the transport of dangerous goods by air:
- To, from, or through all territory subject to the sovereignty of the notifying State by all operators
- Outside the territory of the notifying State to all operators for whom the notifying State is the State of the operator
Operator Variations
Operator variations cannot be less restrictive than the DGR. In addition, operator variations are applicable to all transportation performed by the operators.
When operators submit variations, they must meet the following criteria:
- Have an impact on the shipper's ability to have the particular dangerous goods accepted for transport
- Must not repeat existing DGR provisions
- Must not include restrictions that are purely operational in nature
