Subsection 9.5 - Provision of Information
Pilot-in-Command
All relevant dangerous goods information must be communicated by the operator to the pilot-in-command as soon as possible before departure. The information given to the pilot-in-command must include the following:
- Air Waybill number (when issued)
- The date of the flight
- The proper shipping name and UN or ID number
- The class or division and any subsidiary risk(s)
- The packing group
- The number of packages, net quantity, or gross weight, including the units of measurement, if required on the Shipper's Declaration (include the transport index and exact loading location for radioactive material)
- Whether the package is restricted to cargo aircraft only
- The airport at which the package(s) is to be unloaded
- An indication that the dangerous goods are being carried under a State exemption, if applicable
Informing Passengers and Shippers
The operator is responsible for providing passengers and shippers with the appropriate information to ensure that they are not inadvertently carrying or shipping dangerous goods on the aircraft. This includes providing sufficient notices that are prominently displayed at cargo acceptance checkpoints.
DGR Subsection 9.6 - Reporting
Operators are required to report dangerous goods accidents or incidents to the appropriate State authorities. A sample accident and incident report form is provided in Figure 9.6.A.
Operators are also required to report any instance where an undeclared or mis-declared dangerous good is discovered in cargo, mail, baggage, or on the person of passengers or crew. These reports must be provided to the appropriate State authority where the incident occurred.
