Evacuation

It is important that any life-saving appliance, or equipment associated with life-saving appliances, is able to function properly during adverse environmental conditions for the entirety of the maximum expected time of rescue. In order to do so, the Polar Code has the following regulations:

  • Ships must have the ability to ensure safe evacuation of crew and passengers and deployment of survival equipment.
  • If the equipment needed for safe deployment needs power to do so, that power source needs to operate independently from the ship's main source of power.
