Class 6.2 - Infectious substances: Definitions
The second division under Class 6 is Class 6.2 - Infectious Substances. Infectious substances are those known or expected to carry disease-causing micro-organisms. These micro-organisms may be bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi. Biological products are those derived from living organisms to be used for prevention, treatment, or diagnosis of disease in humans or animals, or for experimental purposes leading to this. An example of this group is vaccines. Cultures are the result of any process in which infectious substances are intentionally grown. Patient specimens are human or animal materials that are collected for purposes such as research, diagnosis, disease treatment, and prevention. Medical and clinical wastes are defined as those wastes that arise from the medical treatment of humans and animals or from bio-research.
