Exemptions

There are a number of exemptions under the Class 6.2 guidelines. For example, if a substance is not likely to cause disease in humans or animals, or if it contains micro-organisms that are not dangerous for humans or animals, then it is not considered a dangerous good.

A final category of substances under Class 6.2 are referred to as "biological products." These are products originally manufactured and packaged in an approved manner that are being transported for purposes of final packaging, distribution, and medical use. An example of this would be live-culture vaccinations. Such products are not subject to the provisions of the IMDG Code. Other classification information and provisions are given for genetically-modified organisms, medical or clinical wastes, and infected animals.
