Labeling of Packages
Section 5.2.2 provides information on the labeling of packages, including IBCs. If a substance or article appears on the Dangerous Goods List, the danger class label matching the class or division listed for the item in column 3 of the DGL must be affixed. (For example, HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTION shows an "8" in column 3, Class or Division. To a package of this substance, we would affix a Class 8 - Corrosive substances label). All labels must be at least 10 centimeters square.
There are some exceptions to these labeling rules, and these are noted in the Dangerous Goods List by reference to special provisions codes, with explanations provided in Chapter 3.3. Special provisions are also outlined for a variety of classes, materials, and packages beginning at 5.2.2.1.4. The labels used under all of labeling provisions must conform to the specified colors, symbols, numbers and general format shown in the specimen labels shown under 5.2.2.2.2.
