Limited & Excepted Quantities
Two final chapters complete Part 3: Chapter 3.4 - Dangerous goods packed in limited quantities and Chapter 3.5 - Dangerous goods packed in excepted quantities.
Chapter 3.4 outlines provisions applicable to the transport of dangerous goods of certain classes when they are packed in limited quantities. When certain goods are packed in the limited quantity specified in DGL Column (7a), they are not subject to any other provision of the IMDG Code except those sections listed under 3.4.1.2. For these packages, packing, stowage, segregation, and marking rules apply, including a specific marking for packaging containing limited quantities.
Chapter 3.5 similarly focuses on dangerous goods packed in excepted quantities. This section provides the list of codes used in DGL Column (7b), and these codes specify the amount of a dangerous good that can be transported free of IMDG Code provisions other than those listed in 3.5.1.1. These codes begin with an uppercase E followed by the numerals 0 to 5 (for example, E4). Note that the code E0 is used for goods that cannot be transported as an excepted quantity. The remainder of Chapter 3.5 covers packaging, marking, documentation, stowage and segregation for excepted quantities.
