Provisions for Bulk Containers
The final chapter in Part 6, 6.9, addresses the design, construction, inspection, and testing of bulk containers. In general, bulk containers and their service and structural equipment must be designed and constructed to withstand both the internal pressure of their contents and the stresses of normal handling and transport. For bulk containers, design and construction provisions are deemed to have been met if the container complies with ISO specifications. Bulk containers are marked with a Safety Approval Plate, as stipulated by the International Convention for Safe Containers. Provisions applying specifically to flexible bulk containers are listed under 6.9.5. This type of container is tested with drop, top lift, topple, tear, and stacking procedures, and are marked with the UN packaging symbol and the code BK3.
