Provisions by Packaging Type
Under Section 6.1.4, specific provisions are laid out for single and grouped packaging types. For example, the first section addresses provisions for steel drums (1A1 and 1A2), stating requirements for materials, construction, closure, and capacities. Similar entries are offered for the rest of the packaging types listed in the table under 6.1.2.7. The next section covers test provisions for packagings. It mandates how and how often packaging tests must be performed, dictates how packages must be prepared for testing, and states acceptable testing methods. The following are included among these testing methods:
- Drop test, with information on the number of test samples required, drop orientation, target materials, and passing criteria
- Leakproofness test, including test samples required, special preparation of test samples, air pressure benchmarks for each of the three packing groups i - iii, and passing criteria
- Internal pressure (hydraulic) test, including test samples required, special preparation of test samples, test method and pressure to be applied, and passing criteria
- Stacking test, including number of test samples, test method, and passing criteria
