Stowage & Segregation on General Cargo Ships

Chapter 7.6 - Stowage and segregation on general cargo ships provides information on proper carriage of dangerous goods on general cargo ships. The chapter applies to ships carrying dangerous goods in conventional cargo spaces, including goods in containers if the ship is not properly fitted to give permanent stowage of the containers during transport. (If the ship is fitted for carrying containers in permanent stowage, refer to Chapter 7.4 - Stowage and segregation on containerships.) A variety of stowage and handling provisions are given for all classes, and several sections cover specific cases, including unstabilized fish and krill meals and seed cake, which become fire hazards as a result of self-heating. A number of segregation requirements pertaining to general cargo ships, with illustrations, are provided under Section 7.6.3.
