Joint Operations
The last section of the PWOM is focused on joint operations, and procedures for those joint operations. It is broken down into two chapters:
- Escorted operations
- Convoy operations
Joint operations can exist between civilian and military authorities as well as corporations. The understanding of both escorted and convoy operations procedures promotes a safer passage.
Escorted Operations
Each coastal State has rules and procedures set out for requiring or offering ice breaking escort services. The PWOM must lay out the ship's limitations when these options are available, as there might be restrictions on the conduct of escort operations.
Convoy Operations
When a group of ships travel together, they are considered a convoy. There are advantages of traveling in a convoy, such as mutual support and protection. The PWOM must lay out the process and procedures for any convoy operation.
