Polar Code - General Requirements

As per Polar Code Part I-A, there are two important documents that are required to be on board each vessel: The Polar Ship Certificate and the Polar Water Operation Manual (PWOM). We will discuss the Polar Ship Certificate in this section, along with other standards. Due to the extensive nature of the PWOM, that will be discussed in the next section.

The Polar Code, in conjunction with the MARPOL convention, also requires additional documentation. This includes the Garbage Record Book, Garbage Management Plan, and the International Pollution Prevention Certificate. While these will be mentioned in the pollution section of this course, a breakdown of their contents is not necessary.
