SOLAS
In November of 1974, the IMO convened the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). Since that time, there have been a number of amendments made to successive forms of the SOLAS Convention. The regulations drafted and put into force are the foundation for Polar Code. SOLAS is an international maritime treaty with over 160 contracting states and is responsible for setting minimum safety standards in regard to the construction, operation, and equipment of merchant vessels.
