Watertight & Weathertight
In order to maintain watertight and weathertight integrity, the following requirements are made:
- All relevant doors and appliances must be operable.
- All ships must have a means to remove or prevent ice accretion around hatches and doors.
- Hydraulically operated hatches and doors must have a means of preventing freezing or a viscosity of liquids that is above normal.
- If a watertight or weathertight door, hatch, or closing device is not in a habitable environment but necessitates access while at sea, it must be designed in such a way that a person wearing heavy winter clothes, such as thick mittens, can operate it.
