Class 4 - Division 4.1, Desensitized Explosives

Solid desensitized explosives are explosive substances that have been wetted with alcohol or water or diluted with other substances to form a homogeneous solid mixture in order to suppress their explosive properties. Some examples of solid desensitized explosives include the following:

  • UN 1310, Ammonium picrate, wetted
  • UN 1320, Dinitrophenol, wetted
  • UN 1336, Nitroguanidine, wetted
  • UN 2555, Nitrocellulose
  • UN 3319, Nitroglycerin mixture desensitized

In addition, substances that are exempt from Class 1, not self-reactive substances of Division 4.1, and not substances of Class 5 are also assigned to Division 4.1. These substances include:

  • UN 2956, Musk xylene
  • UN 3241, 2-Bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 3-diol
  • UN 3242, Azodicarbonamide
  • UN 3251, Isosorbide-5-mononitrate
