Class 5 - Division 5.2 Temperature Controls

Some organic peroxides require temperature controls. They should be protected from direct sunlight and heat sources and adequately ventilated when they are handled, stored, and transported. During transport, if the temperature is maintained well below its self-accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT), most hazards are avoided. The SADT can be anywhere from -10 to +200°C (14 to 392°F) and depends on the particular organic peroxide formulation and package. The following organic peroxides must be subjected to temperature control during transport:

• Organic peroxides types B and C with an SADT less than or equal to 50°C (122°F)
• Organic peroxides type D showing a medium effect when heated under confinement with an SADT less than or equal to 50°C (122°F) or showing low or no effect when heated under confinement with an SADT of less than or equal to 45°C (113°F)
• Organic peroxides types E and F with an SADT less than or equal to 45°C (113°F)
