Class 6 - Division 6.2 Exceptions - Medical Devices
Potentially contaminated medical devices or equipment that are being shipped for disinfection, cleaning, sterilization, or repair are exempt as long as the packaging cannot break, puncture, or leak its contents. The outer packaging must be marked with the words "Used Medical Device" or "Used Medical Equipment." The outer package should contain a leak-proof liner, plastic bag, or other means of containment if it is not already liquid-tight. In addition, packages must be capable of retaining the equipment or devices when dropped from a height of 1.2 m.
This exemption does not include the following substances:
- UN 3291 medical waste
- Medical devices or equipment contaminated with or containing Category A infectious substances (UN 2814 and UN 2900)
- Medical devices or equipment contaminated with or containing other dangerous goods that meet the criteria of another hazard class
