Class 7 - Special Form
Special form radioactive material is defined as material that is either an indispersible solid radioactive material or a sealed capsule containing radioactive material that meets the following requirements:
- If it is a sealed capsule, that capsule must be constructed so that it can only be opened by destroying the capsule.
- At least one dimension of the special form material must be at least 5 mm.
- The design requires unilateral approval.
- The design must not break or shatter under impact or bending, cannot melt or disperse in a heat test, and activity from water in leaching tests cannot exceed 2 kBq.
The following tests must be performed on special form radioactive material:
- Impact test
- Percussion test
- Bending test
- Heat test
- Leaching and volumetric assessment
