HMR DOT Markings
In addition to the basics covered, DOT shipment markings should meet the following requirements:
- Durable and printed or otherwise marked on, or affixed to, the external surface of the package or overpack, or on a label, tag, or sign
- Readily visible and legible
- Able to withstand open weather exposure
- Written in English as well as the language required by the state of origin
- Displayed on a background of sharply contrasting color
- Located away from any other marking, such as advertising, that could substantially reduce its effectiveness
