HMR Non-Bulk Markings

Each person who offers a hazardous material for transportation in a non-bulk packaging must mark the package with the following information found in the Hazardous Materials Table (HMT):

  • Proper shipping name
  • Identification number
  • Technical name
  • Special permit information
  • Full name and address of the consignor or consignee

Marking of Liquids in Non-Bulk Packagings

Any non-bulk combination package with inner packagings containing liquid hazardous materials must be packed with the closures facing upward and must be marked with legible package orientation markings on two opposite vertical sides. Package orientation labels are not required for non-bulk packages if the following requirements are met:

  • The inner package contains cylinders.
  • The package contains 1 L or less of flammable liquids in the inner package and is not being transported by air.
  • The package contains 120 mL or less of flammable liquids in the inner package, is packed with sufficient absorbent material, and is not being transported by air.
  • The package contains liquids contained in manufactured articles that are leak-tight in all orientations.
  • The package has hermetically sealed inner packagings.
  • The package contains 50 ml or less of liquid infectious substances.
