IMDG Code: Shipborne Barges on Barge-Carrying Ships

The final chapter on provisions for specific ship types, Chapter 7.7 - Shipborne Barges on Barge-Carrying Ships, focuses on the special circumstance of barges with packaged or solid bulk dangerous goods aboard barge-carrying ships. For purposes of the chapter, the term "loading" is used to refer to the placement of cargo on the barge itself. "Stowage" refers to the placement of the barge on the barge-carrying ship. As with other ship types, all packages containing dangerous goods must be checked for signs of damage, leaking, or sifting before they are loaded onto a shipborne barge, and once loaded, these packages must be properly braced and secured for the voyage.
