Types of Packagings
It is important to become acquainted with the different types of packagings in each of the packaging sections. In selecting a packaging, you must also consider quantity and modal limitations that may restrict your choices.
United Nations Standard Packaging
UN standard packaging refers to packagings that conform to the standards in the "UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods." UN standard packagings can be built and tested to a variety of performance levels and capacities. Performance tests include the following:
- Drop test (all packagings)
- Leakproof test (all packagings intended for liquids)
- Hydrostatic pressure test (metal, plastic, and composite packagings intended for liquids)
- Stacking test (all packagings except bags)
- Vibration standard (all packagings)
It is very important that the UN standard packaging you select is authorized for the packing group of the material you want to ship.
