Canada Road & Rail Transport - Additional Information Required on a Shipping Document

In addition to the information discussed in the previous slides, the shipping document for dangerous goods for which an ERAP is required must include the reference number of the plan issued by Transport Canada, preceded or followed by the letters "ERP" or "ERAP" or "PIU", and the telephone number to call to have the Emergency Response Assistance Plan activated immediately.

For dangerous goods in transport by vessel, the accompanying shipping document must include the following:

• For dangerous goods included in Class 3, Flammable Liquids, the flash point
• For dangerous goods that are classified as marine pollutants, the words "marine pollutant" or "polluant marin"
• For a pesticide that is a marine pollutant, the name and concentration of the most active substance in the pesticide

Shipping documents should also include the following information:

• For dangerous goods included in Class 4.1, Flammable Solids, the control and emergency temperatures in the UN Recommendations, if applicable
• For dangerous goods included in Class 5.2, Organic Peroxides, the control and emergency temperatures in the UN Recommendations, if applicable
• For dangerous goods included in Class 7, Radioactive Materials, the additional information required for transport documents under the Packaging and Transport of Nuclear Substances Regulations

Finally, a container or its contents that is in transport and being fumigated with a toxic substance must be accompanied by a shipping document that includes information relating to shipping name, class, UN number, quantity, date, and instructions for disposal.
