Canada Road & Rail Transport - Class 1 Special Provisions
A number of Class 1 dangerous goods list applicable special provisions in Schedule 1, column 5, Special Provisions. To learn more about the specific provision, refer to Part 19 of the TDG Regulations. There, Schedule 2 lists all special provisions by provision number.
In addition, Part 1, Section 1.31 of the TDG Regulations lists several exemptions to the rules related to Class 1 dangerous goods. When Class 1 dangerous goods are handled, offered for transport, or transported by road or rail, regulations found in Part 3, Part 4, Part 6, Part 9, and Part 10 of the TDG Regulations do not apply when the following conditions are met:
- If the quantity of all explosives in the road vehicle or railway vehicle is not subject to special provisions 85 or 86, then the quantity must be less than or equal to the sum of the quantities shown in Schedule 1, column 4(a) for each of the goods being transported.
- If the quantity of all explosives in the road vehicle or railway vehicle is subject to special provisions 85 or 86, the number of articles carried must be less than or equal to the quantities called for in those provisions.
- Each means of containment is marked with the class, compatibility group, and UN number for the explosives it contains.
- If the explosives are included in Classes 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, or 1.5 and specific quantity limits are met, a placard must be displayed in conformance with Part 4 of the TDG Regulations.
