Canada Road & Rail Transport - Class 2 Means of Containment

There are no packing groups for Class 2, Gases. However, specific containment standards apply to the handling and transport of Class 2 dangerous goods. These vary by the mode of transportation, and reference a set of CGSB, CSA, and other containment standards. This information is found in Part 5, Section 5.10, of the TDG Regulations.

Additional requirements are set forth for situations in which the means of containment is a cylinder or tube. In this case, the cylinder or tube must:

  • Meet engineering standards specific to its date of manufacture
  • Be of the correct type for the dangerous good carried
  • Meet requirements for the documentation of repair, rebuilding, and inspections

In situations in which UN1950, Aerosols, or UN2037, Gas Cartridges, are to be transported, they must be contained in a means of containment that meets all requirements set forth by CGSB-43.123, "Aerosol Containers and Gas Cartridges for Transport of Dangerous Goods," published in June 2010.
