Canada Road & Rail Transport - Class 2 Safety Marks
Most Class 2 shipments must be marked in accordance with Part 4, Section 4.15, of the TDG Regulations. There are some exceptions, as noted in Section 4.18. Summaries of these exceptions follow:
- When a road vehicle transporting toxic gases, flammable gases, or oxygen, or gases included in Class 2.2, is placarded with the toxic gases placard, the flammable gases, oxidizing gases, and non-flammable and non-toxic placards are not required to be displayed on the vehicle.
- When the Class 2 dangerous good is an oxidizing gas and is contained in a large means of containment, the Oxidizing Gas placard must be displayed on the large means of containment. This pertains to UN1072, UN1073, UN3156, and UN3157 substances. If an ERAP is required for the dangerous good, the UN number must also be displayed.
- When UN1005, Anhydrous Ammonia, is contained in a large means of containment, the large means of containment must have the Class 2.3 placard and UN number displayed on it. The words "Anhydrous Ammonia, Inhalation Hazard" or their French translation must also appear on a contrasting background in letters at least 6 mm wide and at least 50 millimetres high, placed on two sides.
- When Class 2 dangerous goods are contained in a combination of tubes that are interconnected through a piping arrangement and permanently mounted on a structural frame for transport, the structure may be placarded as though it were a single large means of containment.
