Canada Road & Rail Transport - Class 6
Substances are included in Class 6 if they are liable to cause death or serious injury or to harm human health if swallowed or inhaled or if they come into contact with human skin, or if they are infectious substances. Common Class 6 substances include cyanides, lead compounds, biological samples, and clinical wastes.
Class 6 has two divisions.
Class 6.1, Toxic Substances, consists of substances that are liable to cause death or serious injury or to harm human health if swallowed or inhaled or if they come into contact with human skin. Substances included in Class 6.1, Toxic Substances, include dust, mists, and vapours that meet certain levels of oral toxicity, dermal toxicity, and inhalation toxicity.
Class 6.2, Infectious Substances, includes all infectious substances. An infectious substance is defined as "a substance known or reasonably believed to contain viable micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses, rickettsia, parasites, fungi, and other agents such as prions that are known or reasonably believed to cause disease in humans or animals."
