Canada Road & Rail Transport - Equivalent Level of Safety Permit
In some instances, a person or company may develop methods of containing and transporting dangerous goods that are different from those specified by the TDG Regulations. In this case, they must apply for a permit for equivalent level of safety. This permit is not required if the containment, handling, and transport is completed according to the TDG Regulations. However, if a person wants to conduct an activity in a way that is not consistent with the TDG Regulations, that person must apply for a permit for equivalent level of safety to do so. The Minister of Transport or a designated person may issue a permit for equivalent level of safety if he or she is satisfied that the activity authorized by the permit will be conducted in a manner that will provide a level of safety at least equivalent to that provided by compliance with the TDG Regulations.
